The process of obtaining a driver's licence has undergone many changes over the last few years. Driver licence's are obtained through our full service Autopac agency. If you do have any questions you can contact our office
Existing Drivers If you currently have a driver licence you will now be on a multi-year renewal. This means that your licence may be valid for up to 5 years. In the non-renewal years, you still need to make a payment. You can make that payment in person, over, the phone, mail a cheque (payable to Turnbull Whitaker; please include your customer number or driver licence number so we can apply payment properly). In the renewal year, you must come into the office to update your photo. New to Manitoba Drivers If you are moving to the province, MPI requires you to establish your identity. To do that they need supporting documents that establish six key elements: Please call to get a complete list of acceptable documents. Please note that all documents must be originals. Each document must be from an authority such as a federal government, province or federal agency (except address document). If you have had a change of name, MPI requires all the “linking” documents such as marriage certificate issued by Vital Statistics. You should also bring with you a Driver’s Abstract and Claims History letter from your insurer (up to 10 years). New Drivers If you are getting your driver’s licence for the first time, you must be at least 16 years old or 15 ½ years old if you are enrolled in the High School Driver Education program. MPI requires specific identity documents. To prove your identity, you will need supporting documents that establish six key elements: Please call to get a complete list of acceptable documents. Please note that all documents must be originals. Each document must be from an authority such as a federal government, province or federal agency. If you are under 18 a parent or guardian must also come in with you. If you don’t have address documents or acceptable documents with your photograph or signature we can accept a MPI Guarantor Declaration, available at our office. All written and driving test appointments are now booked through our office as well. To book any tests you must be in the office or you can send written authorization to have someone else book it for you. MANITOBA IDENTIFICATION CARD Manitoba residents can apply for a voluntary, government-issued, secure photo identification card that you can use to prove your identity, age and Manitoba residency. The identification card is not the same and the Enhanced identification card. This card cannot be used to enter the US. This card is perfect for youth ages 12 and up, or people who do not have a driver licence but require government issued photo identification. If you currently have a driver's licence but wish to surrender it, you can do so in our office. If you are 65 and over, you can surrender your driver's licence and obtain a Manitoba Identification Card for free. |
