Effective November 13, 2006, Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI) allowed us to issue drivers’ licence's. This change required both massive changes to the MPI computer system and significant training on the part of their employees and the urban MPI broker force. The new system involved a change in the timing of drivers’ licence renewal dates from the end of the driver’s birth month to four months after the drivers birth date. This means that your driver’s licence and your autopac registration renew at the same time. While this will ultimately be more convenient, it has meant that our customers have had to renew their drivers’ licence's twice during the conversion period, and that they have had to have a new passport style picture taken for the new system. If you are a new Manitoba driver we will have to set you up on the system. In order to do this we have to comply with six identification elements and we recommend that you contact our office prior to coming in so that we can advise you exactly what is required in your situation.
MANITOBA IDENTIFICATION CARD Manitoba residents can apply for a voluntary, government-issued, secure photo identification card that you can use to prove your identity, age and Manitoba residency. The identification card is not the same and the Enhanced identification card. This card cannot be used to enter the US. This card is perfect for youth ages 12 and up, or people who do not have a driver licence but require government issued photo identification. If you currently have a driver's licence but wish to surrender it, you can do so in our office. If you are 65 and over, you can surrender your driver's licence and obtain a Manitoba Identification Card for free. |
